Volunteer Spotlight – Rick Sievers
VANCOUVER, Wash., July 30, 2018 – Nearly 200 volunteers throughout four counties are making an impact through Community Home Health & Hospice. Rick Sievers of Vancouver, Washington, is one of them. He is passionate about volunteering because of his personal experience with hospice. For more than a year, he has assisted with hospice respite care. He has also been a co-facilitator for both a men’s bereavement group and a suicide loss group. It’s been a year of learning and un-learning much for Sievers.
“I’ve shed the idea that hospice is focused on dying,” said Sievers. “Hospice is about living in deeper comfort, discovering a richer array of choices and inhabiting a more solid dignity. It is about support for the entire family.” Sievers considers it a privilege to be present with patients and their families and to help them on their journey. He has a background in mental health and family support services. He has four published volumes of poetry, several of his paintings have been featured in local art shows, and he facilitates yoga sound meditations with his wife. In his free time, Sievers enjoys sailing with family and friends on the Columbia River. Community Home Health & Hospice is looking for volunteers for more information, visit www.chhh.org.
