Starting February 7, 2019, at Community Home Health & Hospice in Salmon Creek
VANCOUVER, Wash., January 8, 2019 – Community Home Health & Hospice is offering an eight-week, free grief support group for survivors of suicide loss at the Seasons of Hope Grief Center, 3102 NE 134th St., Vancouver, WA. The group meets Thursdays from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, from February 7, 2019 – March 28, 2019. Facilitated by Rick Sievers, Hospice Volunteer.
“Those first two months, I felt like I was having a heart attack every day,” said Jarl Peterson, survivors of suicide group participant. “I want everyone to know about this group. I want to reach as many people as possible.” He believes it is the most important thing he has done in the past year. It provided him a lifeline. This small support group focuses on the profound grieving process of suicide bereavement. The 8-week group educated him on grief and the biology of suicide. He met other families dealing with grief and learned how to navigate as a family with surviving siblings. After ‘graduating’ from the 8-week course, attendees then continue to meet monthly in an open-ended group. They can come once or as long as they need support. The support they give one another is immeasurable.
They ask that only one member of a family participate in each eight-week session. This allows that person to focus on their grief. Registration is requested, 360.703.0300 or griefsupport@chhh.org.
